Questions you may have about her:

Q: Why did you create her?
A: Because I wanted to create my own Bleach OC; I thought it would be fun! ^_^ After watching Bleach, ideas just started popping into my head, and I thought she would be adorable with Shinji, a character whom I love so much. <3

Q: Is she a self-insert? (Basically “self-insert” means the character is based off of the creator in almost every aspect.)
A: No, she and I are almost complete opposites, in personality and in appearance. Even though Mari "hates" Orihime, she's one of my favorite characters. I didn’t want to create a character based off of myself, because 1) I think that’s kind of hard, and 2) I think that’s very boring. For example, after I posted pictures of myself, people were shock, because Mari and I look nothing alike...we don't even have the same skin-tone! (Because I'm Pakistani.) I get much better grades than her (I actually like math, haha), I'm a decent singer, I like Hello Kitty, I only eat ice cream every once in a while, and have only watched a few episodes of Lupin III.

Q: Is she your baby?
A: Well no, I don't hold her so near and dear that I'll lash out at you or bawl my eyes out if you insult her. She's a figment of my imagination, not my child. Rarely will I ever say, “I love my OC!”, I mean, of course I won’t create a character I hate. Let’s just say I’m very happy with how she turned out. I usually do have a soft spot for characters that are none too bright though and a preference for the blonde-haired, blue-eyed characters that are girly, so that contributed to how she is. (Though she's not the stereotypical sweet, kind, shy girl.)

Q: Mary-Sue?
A: You tell me. I’m not going to say, “SHE IS NOT A MARY SUE, YOU’RE ALL JUST HATING.” Everyone has his or her own opinion, and I don’t even like that phrase, to be quite honest. I prefer the terms “unrealistic” or “underdeveloped.” The idea of a Mary Sue embodies so many different concepts, which includes perfection of appearance, flawless personality, tragic past, too powerful, etc. That’s just too much, a character can be “Sue-ish” toward one end of the spectrum, but balanced at the opposite end. If you would like to point out she’s a Mary Sue, please do so by specifically pointing out which part you find unrealistic. (Like I said before, just saying she’s a Mary Sue is too vague.)

I have, however, taken a multitude of Mary Sue tests for her, and she’s scored non-Sue on all of them. Be that as it may, I’m not going to throw that in your face and say, “Ha! Proof she isn’t a Sue!”, because honestly, that’s idiotic. I respect people’s opinions.

Q: Why all the pink?
A: I have no idea, pink isn’t even my favorite color. o.o I guess I thought Bleach needed some more pink, poor Yachiru-chan is the only one. T_T I also somehow had it stuck in my head that Mari should wear hot pink skinny jeans, because girls don’t have to wear skirts/dresses to look cute/girly!

Q: Why is she obsessed with Lupin III?
A: I watched a video on YouTube of Hirako’s theme song, and one of the comments said in the picture he looked like a character called Lupin III. I have never heard of it and so went on Google Images and the main character of that show did have the same suave style as Shinji. I watched the first few episodes and I actually really like it, but I haven’t had time to watch any more. I think Mari likes him for his personality; he’s kind of goofy, but still badass. (*gasp* Like a certain someone we know…!)

Q: Where did her name come from?
A: I was soooo picky when it came to her name, I changed it about a thousand times. Hana Kimuri, Adele Yanase, Yoko/Gwen/Zen Watanabe, Angelica Watanabe were all names I went through before I settled on Marise Asahina. Actually, those names before were also kind of different characters too. If you notice there is no “k” in Mari’s name, I did that in purpose because I felt that the Japanese language focuses too much on that sound, lol. “Asahina” I found on Wikipedia and I really liked it, it means “morning doll.” Her first name is another story, most would think that it’s spelled wrong, that it should be, “Marisa,” like Marisa Kirisame from Touhou. But no, it’s actually supposed to be that way. I wanted a name that was Japanese and French and this came out! So it has meanings in both languages, it’s the French form of Mary, also means "bitter" or "beloved." In Japanese it’s apparently a unisex name and means "infinite" or "endless." It’s pronounced MAH-REE-SAY.

Q: Why does she like Rose, Love and Uryu?
A: In my fanfic, Rose now looks like a beatnik so he wears glasses. Mari has a glasses kink, so she also develops crushes on other characters. It's not as prevalent as it was in the beginning, so this quirk will probably fade away.

Q: Will she be shipped with other characters?
A: I don’t really like love triangles, however, if there are any hints of that, it’ll only be in a comical sense. (Like with the glasses kink above.) Also, I admire Tite Kubo for being able to keep Bleach a shonen anime with no distinct couples, even though sometimes it annoys the hell out of me… I think before I was thinking of throwing Aizen in the mix, but when you think about it, I don't think he'd find Mari appealing at all. He seems like a no-nonsense type of guy, and Mari is just all over the place...I think he would want Shinji. <3 Sooo...Shinji would be in the middle of that love triangle. XD Shinji x Mari x Rimen (Shinji's inner Hollow) is another possibility, but that's outside of the fanfic.

Q: Why did you choose her to be a Human?
A: I have no idea; I just really like the Humans for some reason. To me it just didn’t fit for her to be an Arrancar, Shinigami, and I don’t plan on having her become a Visored, for those of you wondering. Though I have to admit, I came up with her before the Fullbringer arc came out in the manga, and struggled so much with her powers. Then with this new concept I made her a Fullbringer, but even then I changed her Fullbring three times. So…we’ll just say I’m not good at making powers/abilities in general, lol.

Q: Why half-French?
A: Hmm...well, maybe I wanted to diversify Bleach? I like that Chad is half-Mexican, the Arrancar have a Spanish flair and Uryu has that whole German thing going on. Plus, I love the culture of France and I can have a lot of fun with it perversely speaking. (With Marise being a French maid and all, mwahaha.) Just to make Shinji's life better. xD
