Tanabata Festival Three's a Crowd
++ A contest entry for Doki-Doki-Bleach, the theme being: Tanabata. A Shinji x Mari x Rimen oneshot ++
Marise wiped furiously at a table, her eyebrows drawn together in frustration. The stupid stain
it wouldn't go away! She took away her towel and grabbed some spray, pushing the nozzle a few times, and went to try again.
"Aha!" she exclaimed triumphantly. She stood back and looked at the table, admiring her work. She then pouted her lips and slouched, letting out a small whimper.
One table down
only about two-dozen more to go
"It's not fair!" she wailed dramatically, tears at her eyes. "Why do I have to work on Tanabata?" She should be out at the festival, having fun! Instead she was cooped up in the stupid café, having to close the restaurant after cleaning all the tables.
Her boss, Honami, had just come out of his office, key in his hand. He rolled his eyes at his dramatic employee. "Alright, you can go, Asahina."
Marise turned to the man. "R-really? I can?" she squealed, her hands clasped together, blue eyes sparkling.
"Of course," he replied with an innocent smile. He then added, "You can come in early tomorrow and clean the rest of the tables!"
Mari scrunched her nose. You're the worst boss ever! "You're the best boss ever!" she said instead, putting on a fake smile. She tossed her rag onto a table and ran out the door.
It was July 7th. Today, the Tanabata festivities would begin. Mari looked forward to it every year, and was even more excited because this would be the first year she'd be spending it with Shinji. He had planned on meeting her outside the café, and as Mari looked at her wristwatch, she winced slightly. There was no time to go home and change into a kimono
Luckily, her boss had changed the normal maid uniform into a short kimono to celebrate Tanabata and to attract customers, so Marise wouldn't look too out of place. (This would probably be the only time that her boss's strange fetishes would be helpful.) The top of her kimono was a bubblegum pink color, with white ruffled sleeves lining the opening. Around her waist she wore a wide maroon sash, with a smaller pink ribbon around the middle of it, tying into a bow in the back. The skirt of her kimono went to her thighs and was fitting around her curvy bottom, and she constantly was pulling it down, afraid it would ride up to high and reveal her panties. She was also incredibly self-conscious that it made her look fat from behind. She wore white thigh-high socks and some pink flats. Her kimono was sleeveless, yet she wore detached sleeves that started halfway to her shoulder and flew out all the way to her wrists. Instead of her usual pink bow, she wore a small pink flower pinned to the side of her head.
As she waited outside the café, a person from Karakura High ran past, waving at Marise. "Hey, Shinji looks so cool!" the guy exclaimed, his eyes filled with excitement. "I don't know what he did with his eyes, but it looks so real! And that body paint, it's incredible!"
Mari just watched him run by, bewildered. What in the world was he talking about? Did Shinji get contacts or something? She then gasped in astonishment
looking cool? This must be a miracle! He must look like
like Lupin! What could be cooler than that?
She turned to her left and gasped in surprise in seeing Shinji coming toward her. His skin was pasty, his hair was long and white, falling to his waist, and he had yellow eyes on black pupils
Whoa, how did he do that with his eyes? Mari thought, astonished.
"Shinji!" Mari pouted, placing her hands on her hips. He didn't look at her though, and she nearly shook with anger. "Don't ignore me Hirako Shinji, look at me!" she snapped. "I'm talking to you, mister!"
The person finally looked when he heard his host's name. This girl
she knows Shinji.
"You should have told me you were going to dress as the ghost of Hikoboshi," she whined, stomping her foot on the ground. "Then I could have dressed up as Orihime's ghost! Hmm
" she then mused, tapping her finger against her lips. The Karakura Orihime would probably be dressed as that, seeing as she did possess the same name as the princess from the legend that inspired the holiday. Mari became slightly jealous, wishing she had Orihime's name so she could be more important.
Shinji's Hollow side, Rimen, didn't respond, and didn't really need to, as the petite blonde girl did all of the talking. He just stared at her, astounded at how Shinji landed a girl as hot as she. But those weren't the only emotions he felt
Rimen clenched and unclenched his fists, confused as to why these sudden feelings of love and lust overcame him. He barely knew this girl
so why did he want to grab her and kiss her?
Mari stopped her chatter, her face falling a bit. Why hadn't Shinji tried to kiss her yet? Although she claimed that she disliked public displays of affection, she really liked the attention he gave her, even if it was lusty. Taking the initiative, Marise grabbed his tie, pulling him down to kiss him, an embarrassed blush on her cheeks.
Rimen blinked in surprise, but of course he wasn't going to protest, especially not against those soft, pouting lips, blushing cheeks and deep blue eyes. He leaned in, about to meet her lips, until they both heard yelling from behind.
"Hmm?" Mari wondered, turning around. Her eyes went as wide as saucers in shock when she saw
Shinji? Her head whipped back and forth between Shinji and Rimen. "Wh-wh-what
what's going on?" she sputtered, backing away from the stranger who looked like an inverted Shinji. She then began poking his chest furiously. "I
I should smack you for trying to take advantage of me, you Yanki pervert!" she cried. "Bad, naughty boy! You should be ashamed of yourself!" She then quickly turned to Shinji, her blue eyes widening, clasping her hands apologetically. "I-I really thought this man was you, Shinji!" she pleaded.
"It's okay, Mari," Shinji said quickly, already seeing the tears brimming at her eyes. He then looked up and shot a dark glare at his Hollow self. "Why tha hell did ya leave Urahara's shop? And more importantly," he went up and grabbed Rimen by the collar. "Why were ya gonna kiss Mari, when ya know she's mine?"
Rimen merely shrugged. "How could I resist such a beautiful girl? I never though she would be so fuckin' cute! No wonder ya have so many dreams of her naked and tied up."
Mari's jaw dropped at this statement, appalled. "Aww, c'mon Mari-chan," her lover defended sheepishly. "Like me havin' those thoughts is a secret."
"Hmph, well!" Mari huffed. She turned to Rimen. "You would never have these kinds of perverted thoughts, right?"
Rimen, who had been eying her breasts, looked up and said quickly. "Oh yeah, of course not! I appreciate yer stimulatin' conversation and delicate, pure beauty, love."
Marise squealed, placing her hands on her blushing cheeks, glowing from the compliment. Her eyes then widened, finally realizing that his voice sounded strange. "Oh, oh!" she exclaimed, grabbing hold of his sleeve. "Say, 'I am your father.' Go on, say it!" She clasped her hands together in anticipation. It would sound so cool in his voice!
Rimen looked at the girl like she was crazy and then over her head at Shinji. The blonde Visored muttered, "She's just like that."
"Mari, Rimen. Rimen, Mari," Shinji introduced, his voice flat.
"Pleasure ta meet ya, Mari-chan," Rimen murmured. He took her hand and kissed the back of it. A blush immediately crept up her neck and spread across her cheeks.
nice to meet you," she stammered.
"Hey!" Shinji barked. "Who said ya could call her that?" He pulled Mari from him and toward his chest, wrapping his arms around her possessively. "She's my Mari-chan."
I still don't know who this person is. Why does he look so much like you?" Mari asked, looking up at him.
"He's my Inner Hollow," Shinji muttered. "Kisuke was experimentin' and succeeded in sepearatin' us."
"Oh," she breathed in awe, nodding. No wonder he looked like a ghost!
Shinji took her hand, and said to Rimen, "Go back to Urahara's shop. C'mon Mari-chan, the festival will be over if we stand around here."
Marise looked back at Rimen, and jutted her lower lip out in sympathy for him. He looked so sad, how could she not feel sorry for him
? "Oh, Shinji, don't be so mean! Urahara and the others probably left the shop to join the festivities
he'll be all alone!"
"So?" Like Shinji cared much about his Hollow self
Rimen gave him nothing but grief.
"Shinji!" Mari scolded.
"Fine," he muttered. "He can wander around and flirt with whoever tha hell he wants
"But," Rimen interjected, pouting pathetically. "I'll get slapped and kicked out if I try that, and I don't know anybody!"
"Aww," Mari said. She had no idea why she felt so much for him, was it because he was just a different side to Shinji, the man she loved? "Ah, you can come along with us, Rimen-kun!"
"Hell. No," Shinji growled, dead-set against the idea.
Marise turned to him and quivered her lower lip. Shinji sighed heavily; he never was able to resist her puppy eyes and pouting. "Fine, fine. But if ya touch Mari, yer dead."
Rimen, completely disregarding Shinji's last statement, took Mari's other hand.
"What did I just say?" Shinji cried, furious. "What tha fuck did I just say, Rimen?"
"Since I'm apart of ya," Rimen argued. "Doesn't that make Mari-chan mine too?"
"I'm gonna kill ya."
"But if ya kill me, yer killin' apart of yerself."
"Ooh," Mari said in awe, nodding in agreement. She turned to Shinji. "That's deep."
Shinji rolled his eyes and they headed to the festival. It was going to be a long night.
Marise could barely contain her excitement once they arrived. She gazed in awe at all of the lit paper lanterns, bamboo decorations, the games, and practically salivated at the sight and smell of all of the sweets
! She swung Shinji and Rimen's arms back and forth, bouncing up and down. "Ice cream first, ice cream first!" she declared.
When they got to the ice cream table, Mari squealed, picking up one with the head in a shape of a panda. "So cute!"
"Mari, ya'd love this one," Shinji snickered, holding a Hello Kitty one.
Marise immediately scrunched her nose in disgust upon seeing it.
Rimen placed his hands on Mari's shoulders. "Actually, Mari-chan hates that thing!"
"See?" Mari said. "Rimen-kun is more considerate of me!"
"I-I know ya don't like it!" Shinji sputtered, flailing his arms helplessly. "I was just teasin'!" He glowered at Rimen, who just grinned innocently, hugging Mari tightly.
"Who is that hugging Mari-chan?"
Shinji turned around to see some kids from the high school. "Ah
he's my cousin," he quickly said.
"Wow, Mari is so lucky to have two boyfriends!"
"Eh?" Marise cried, blushing. "R-Rimen-kun isn't
"But Mari-chan, I love ya just as
well, even more than Shinji does!" Rimen said, nuzzling his nose into her hair.
"RIMEN, I'M GONNA KILL YA!" Shinji barked.
"You guys, enough!" Mari scolded. "You two have argued the entire way here! Now, you are not going to ruin Tanabata for me, do you understand?"
" they both said, surprised by this sudden burst of authority in their tiny Mari-chan.
"Good!" She smiled. "Off to the rest of the food stands!" She slapped Shinji and Rimen's hands away. "No, neither of you get to hold my hand!"
"What?" Shinji cried. "But it's this bastard's fault! He ain't even 'spose ta be here!"
"Here, Shinji," Mari said, stuffing some food into his mouth. "Eat this sweet dango!"
"Loser," Rimen snickered.
"Have some taiyaki, Rimen-kun!" Mari pushed the fish-shaped cake into the Hollow's mouth. "Oh
oh my gosh!" she shrieked.
"What? What?" Shinji asked, concerned.
"I want that, I want that!" Marise ran over to one game, pointing to the giant Lupin III plush doll in the corner. "Waaah, there's only one!" She handed some tickets to the man and picked up a ball, holding the other two in her other hand. She bit her lower lip nervously and threw the ball, though it flew right over the stack of cans. I-I'm so nervous I can barely throw! She tried another, though failed.
" she sobbed, about to burst into tears. "Someone else will get it!"
"All this fuss over a doll?" Rimen muttered. He took the last ball from Mari and threw it better than a pitcher, knocking over all of the cans.
"Congratulations!" the man running the game exclaimed. "Choose whatever prize you'd like!"
"Oh, oh, Rimen!" Mari begged. "Choose Lupin, choose that one!"
"What, this thing?" Rimen felt like ripping its head off for capturing so much of the girl's attention. "I'm better lookin' than he is. But here, if ya want it so much."
"YAY!" she squealed, hugging the large doll. She then put it down and tackled Rimen into a hug. "Thank you, Rimen-kun!"
Rimen's cheek were stained light red in an innocent blush. Mari's sweet scent hit his nostrils and the feeling of her soft body against his
"Alright, that's enough," Shinji muttered, pulling Mari back. "I could've gotten it for ya too, muffin."
"Aww, I know, Shinji-pie," she cooed, standing on her tip-toes to kiss his cheek. "Let's go sit on the dock, we can get a perfect view of the fireworks! Hurry, before it starts!"
"Hey, Mari, don't go so fast!" Shinji called out, though her small legs were already on their way. He chuckled under his breath. "Crazy girl
" He looked at Rimen with a raised eyebrow. "What's tha matter with ya?"
Rimen rubbed the back of his neck with his hand. "Nothin'
" he mumbled. Hollows didn't have hearts, and yet he felt like the place where his should be was fluttering. God, what was he, a teenage girl?
Shinji sighed, knowing full well just what Rimen was going through, having gone through it himself not too long ago. Could he really be mad though? They were almost the same person
but Shinji couldn't share Mari with anybody, he wanted her all to himself
yeah, he was selfish. "Sorry, Rimen," he said softly.
Rimen shrugged, brushing Shinji's apology off as if it were nothing. What did he need to apologize for? It's not like Mari meant anything to Rimen anyway
And although he tried to convince himself of that, his heart still yearned for her.
"Ah, there you slowpokes are!" Mari exclaimed, already sitting on the dock. Her legs were dangling over the end, and she was leaning back, her hands behind her on the wood. "Look at the pretty water lilies, they're practically glowing from the moonlight!"
Shinji and Rimen took seats on opposite sides of her and waited for the fireworks to begin.
"I'm so glad it didn't rain," Mari commented. She gasped, her blue eyes lighting up. "Oh!" She pointed. "A shooting star!" They watched it fall back toward the ground. "There's a tradition that a love will last forever if there is a kiss immediately after seeing one."
Shinji and Rimen blinked and immediately kissed Mari, one on each cheek. A blush spread across her cheeks. "Aha, you guys!" she giggled. "Now it's my turn to kiss my love."
Both of them practically leaned on the edge of their seats in anticipation at whom she would kiss first.
However, Mari shocked both of them by pulling a picture out from her kimono. She kissed it, sighing dreamily as she held to her chest.
"What tha hell, Mari!" Shinji cried, snatching the picture. "FUCKIN' LUPIN? ARE YA SERIOUS?"
Marise pouted innocently. "What? Lupin-sama will always be my one true love."
Shinji and Rimen pouted and slumped in defeat. Neither of them were a match for the fictional Arsene Lupin III.
"Ya gotta be kiddin' me!" Shinji complained. They had walked all the way to Urahara's shop only to see a piece of paper taped to the door.
"Still out partying! Probably won't be back until late, so don't wait up!" Kisuke
"Damn him!" Shinji pounded on the door, hitting the piece of paper that had a stupid doodle of Urahara.
"It's okay, Shinji," Mari said. "We can just come back tomorrow."
"Yeah, and I'll stay over at Mari-chan's house," Rimen added. Mari let out a squeak when he lifted her into his arms.
"Like I'm gonna let that happen," Shinji muttered. If Mari's family saw Rimen, they'd probably freak out. He pried open the door, and pulled Rimen by the sleeve inside. "We're gonna wait here until they come back, so Kisuke can put ya back inside me."
"Hmm, I'd rather be inside you, Mari-chan," Rimen whispered in her ear.
"R-Rimen-kun!" Mari squeaked, her face bright red. He really was just as perverted as Shinji! (No wonder she liked him so much.) "Put me down!"
Shinji glowered at Rimen before sighing. "Well, nothin' ta do but wait," Shinji said, placing his hands in his pockets.
"Aww, but it's so late," Mari yawned, rubbing her eyes.
"Go ta sleep, love," Shinji said softly. "There's a futon over there."
Marise nodded, crawling under the covers, laying her head against the soft pillow. Her kimono uniform was slightly uncomfortable, but she was just so exhausted she barely noticed it. She looked up through half-lidded eyes to see Shinji was still standing. She blushed, though hesitantly patted a spot next to her. "Y-you can lie down too
Shinji grinned. "Well, this is rare. My Mari-chan askin' me ta sleep with her." He slid next to her, skimming his fingers over her cheek.
Mari then noticed Rimen. "Rimen-kun, you come too!"
"What?" Shinji sputtered. "He can sleep outside!" He frowned slightly when his inner Hollow snuggled next to his muffin. "No touchin'," he said darkly.
"But I love her, too!"
"I don't give a shit!"
"Ehhh, stop arguing, it makes my head hurt," Mari whimpered, covering her ears. She turned to her side and sighed contently when Shinji wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her back against his chest. She was about to drift to sleep, but first she reached out and took Rimen's hand, smiling softly. "Good night."
Rimen's eyes widened in surprise, and he squeezed her hand tightly, bringing it to his lips in a chaste kiss. G'night
angel. He watched her eyes slowly drift shut; her long lashes against her blushing cheeks. Everything about her was pure, innocence just radiated from her. Although
Rimen never thought that an angel could be so loud, random, and dramatic, but still
she was a shining light in his dark, lonely world. For the first time, he could genuinely smile, and it was all because of her.
Soon they were fast asleep, and it wasn't until a few hours later that Urahara and Yoruichi walked in.
"Whoa," Yoruichi breathed in seeing Mari sleeping between Rimen and Shinji.
"Well, Yoruichi-san," Urahara stated, waving his fan. "It would seem we just missed a wild threesome. How unfortunate."
"It must have been a very happy Tanabata."
